Teachers and Projects

Marcia Balonis

She has worked with beads since her hippie years, a very long time ago. She has taught a variety of bead pieces at national, regional, and local levels for over 20 years while travelling for work as a financial manager. After retirement from the financial world in 2008, Marcia says she changed from being a “bean” counter to a “bead” counter.
Her publications include numerous articles in many bead and mixed medial publications including Bead and Button, Beadwork, Jewelry Crafts, Perlen Posie, Bead Jewellery Magazine (UK), Expressions, and Belle Armoire. Marcia taught at various national conventions including Art Continuum, Celebrate Art, Bead Fest, and at The Bead and Button Show every year from 2005-2019. Her book, Lush and Layered Beadweaving was published in 2018. She loves to share her passion for bead work with her students.
Designing with beads and creating patterns has led to opening an Etsy shop where she primarily sells patterns and kits. Her talent for bead pattern construction led to several years as a Starman Trendsetter.
Now living in Florida, she enjoys teaching jewelry at local bead stores, at retreats, regional conventions.

Pamela Garbig

I started at the very young age of 5 at my grandmother’s house. No real toys there, but a big can of buttons and beads to sort for hours. Rocks and shell collecting came next, along with all other kinds of media. By age 8, I started to learn embroidery stitches with the strings I snuck out of my mother’s sewing box. When I grew up, I opened my very own art gallery and shared my beads in the store. That turned into a full blown Bead Shop and I haven’t stopped since. I have been formally trained in Art and Bead Weaving, but Bead embroidery is where my heart is. I am currently a National Bead Embroidery Instructor and have been published in, and taught at Bead & Button Show and published in Bead Work magazine. I have also taught several times for Bead Fest Philly as well as other National events. My classes are taught by the storytelling of a piece, looking at the design as it might be in nature. And transferring that beauty into a wearable piece of art. All of my kits are unique to each student. As I appreciate each student’s individuality. I look to nature for inspiration as well as natural beads to create with. The simplicity of Bead Embroidery allows anyone to paint their dreams, and I’m so proud to able to share it with you.
